Light baby light!

If you're looking for a funny star wars spoof, check this out.

THANK YOU NEIGHBOR GREG! For the past 6 months, Oliwia and I have been without power to one fourth of our upstairs. We have had intermittent problems since we moved in but it completely stopped working just about the same time I finished working on Sofie's room. We figured there was a major problem and put off fixing it but the whole time there was a simple solution: don't let Matt play with wires! Apparently, when I modernized the outlets in Sofie's room, I rewired/unwired/screwed something. Our neighbor Greg came over today and in the period of an hour, isolated the problem and fixed the whole thing!

To be honest, the original wiring in that outlet was rigged in an interesting way which probably was causing the initial problem. However, Greg took one look at it and minutes later, we had power again. We can entertain again in our living room.

Ok, so what else did we do this weekend besides not study? Friday night we watched a really good game between the Utah Jazz and the Denver Nuggets. Yesterday Oliwia, Sofie

and I went to Park City just to get out of the inversion. We hung out at Redstone Plaza since we didn't dare to venture into Park City proper with Sundance in full swing. Traffic was bad enough at Kimball junction. Saturday night was quiet and today was just an errand day, recycling, etc.

As for Sofie, we had our first visit to the Instacare last Sunday. Unbeknownst to us, you can make reservations. When we showed up at 6 pm with Sofie screaming, the attendant asked us if we had an appointment. We explained that we had come in because it was an emergency, only to be told "everything here is an emergency". Nice! The good news is that everything turned out just fine. Sofie is such a good kid and she never screams. So last week when we handed her over my Dad to hold her, she started screaming and wouldn't stop. We (that's code for Oliwia, a.k.a. Mom) knew something was wrong. Amusingly, she is at the age where she is uncomfortable with anyone other than Oliwia and me, and the family joke is that my Dad scared her. As it turns out, she had a hair in her eye that had scratched her cornea. The MD at the Instacare did an amazing job in finding this. With infants, it is very difficult to diagnose things and we appreciate the job he did. The damage is slight and will not affect her sight. The first "bump" is under our belt. Hopefully, there won't be many more. ( I can hear the other parents laughing now).

Well, that should bring you up to date.

The Wall streak ends

After dealing with my personal issues, I am finally able to admit defeat. Back in December, I tried THE WALL. I had hopes that it was rideable. I made it through snow and mud to the plateau and THE WALL was before me. I figured that the tundra would be frozen. I was wrong. After 25 successful climbs, I made it halfway up. Here are the picks.

This just in about The Office

Oliwia and I just watched the most recent episode of The Office, The Return, that we purchased from The Office - The Office, Season 3 - The Return. I don't know if this is something new, but there are several scenes that were included in the iTunes version that weren't included in last night's show on TV. We have the season's pass to The Office and haven't noticed this before. Perhaps this is additional bonus footage included in the iTunes version.

To explain why we watch on TV and purchase it as well, the answer is that we are not always around to catch the Thursday night episodes. Everyone is telling us to get Tivo but we are slow learners. So rather than be tied to the TV, we can focus on Sofie, go out with friends, etc. and then enjoy the episode at our leisure.

As you can see, I am new to this blogging thing and am playing around with different ways to link things.

I'll see how the weekend goes and post again soon.

MLK Weekend

It is cold here in Salt Lake, 19 degrees F currently and colder at night. It's nice to bunker down with the family and ride it out. I have yet to get out skiing, too cold and we still are waiting for the epic storm. My neighbors tell me Alta is not crowded and the skiing is decent but not what we live in Utah for.

This weekend I am spending a lot of time studying for the CFP. I am aiming to take the test in July. There is a ton of material to cover so we'll see how it goes.

Sofie is getting more loquacious each day. I will need some help saying "no" to that face. When she's old enough to read this she will already have figured out how to control us. A smile here, a coo there, kicking and flopping everywhere..... WHAT A RIDE!! Last night we had our first scare. A dog took a nip at her. She was fine but Oliwia wasn't. Oliwia and I make a great team, she panics and I try to maintain the cool. When she came in the door after the snip, I would have thought that we need to go to the emergency room. Not the case at all. Sofie was just a little tired and hungry and calmed down immediately after Dad took over. I think she was actually more frightened by Mom's startled reaction. I took over parenting for the night and Oliwia went back over to the neighbors to enjoy the rest of the evening. I know that Sofie will have bumps and bruises along the way, she'll be fine. We might need some Valium for Oliwia though :). The night completed with Sofie sleeping through the night completely for the first time. We're talking in bed at 9 pm and up at 7 am, no midnight feeding required.

Happy New Year

Hello all,

It's been a while since my last post. Oliwia, Sofie and I all find ourselves healthy heading into 2007. Sofie had her first visit from Santa Claus (pureed carrots) and ushered in the new year by graduating to a variety of ooohs and aaahs. She gets cuter every day.

The holiday season was enjoyable with a lot of rest. We had time to see our family and many of our friends. Christmas Eve was spent with Clark, Virginia and Art. Nothing too eventful but just a nice time to sit down, have a drink and enjoy some conversation. Christmas Day was spent with Jeff and my family. It included by playing Monopoly and watching the Cowboys get handled by Philly. We'll see what happens in the playoffs. New Years was calm and we briefly visited with the Rikers but were relaxed at home as the "ball" fell in Salt Lake.

As for New Year's reolutions, Oliwia and I have the standard fitness goals. My goal is to pass the CFp and hers, her qualifiers. As a final note, I tried riding the wall on Dec. 30th and failed. The streak of consecutive successful climbs ends at 25. It was muddy but doable as the aspect has allowed most of the snow to melt. There are snow patches up to the plateau and I cleared all of that. Well, the new streak will start shortly.

Cheers,
